Annelies van Haeften : Critical Language Scholarship
Annelies van Haeften (‘25, Global Studies/Public Policy) was born in the Netherlands and grew up between Central America, the United States, and Europe. Annelies began her Arabic studies remotely through the CLS Spark program via the University of Alexandria in the summer of 2025. Since then, she has continued to study Arabic, as well as taken an interest in Lebanese and Palestinian literature. Her MA International Relations program (Global Conflict in the Modern Era) at Leiden University focuses on “transnational nationalism” with an emphasis on narratives around immigration and gender. With this, she hopes to advocate for gender equity, in particular for displaced Arabic-speaking communities.
