Freja Ekman

Freja Ekman (’18, Chemical Biology) is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine, having already earned a master’s degree in translational biomedical research from the University of Cambridge. Freja aspires to address the inequities experienced by the neurodiverse community through both the development of personalized therapies and disability advocacy. She has developed both DNA and RNA gene therapy strategies with Professor Schaffer at UC Berkeley and Professor Lever at Cambridge. She also worked at D.E. Naveen Durvasula

Naveen Durvasula is a sophomore majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Business Administration through the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology program at UCB. He’s interested in problems at the intersection of computational learning theory, economics, and machine learning. After graduation, he intends to get a PhD in computer science and (one day) start a company.

Justin Hogenauer

Justin Hogenauer is a junior pursuing simultaneous degrees in Society & Environment and Business Administration at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to studying Thai, he serves as a squadron commander in Air Force ROTC and as an undergraduate academic peer advisor for the Rausser College of Natural Resources. Orion Ning

Orion Ning is a senior (’22) majoring in physics and mathematics at UC Berkeley. He has been involved in research in both theoretical and experimental particle physics, as well as in cosmology. Orion’s research work spans a broad range of open problems and ideas, in particular studying special types of quantum field theories, parameterizing dark energy and gravity theories, and conducting precision tests for Beyond-Standard-Model physics. Anthony Neil Tan

Anthony Neil Tan is a budding bioengineer and a maker education advocate. As a second-year Bioengineering undergraduate at UC Berkeley, he’s pursuing his passion for agricultural technologies through NASA’s Growing Beyond Earth contest and exploring his interest in alternative protein through interning at New Age Meats. Alexander Zhao : Schwarzman Scholars Program

Alexander Zhao (’21, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) has published research on biased algorithms and recommender systems and served as an editor for the data projects team for The Daily Californian. Alexander hopes to improve our ability to assess fairness in algorithms through his experiences in graduate school.

Kayla Brown : Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Kayla Brown earned her B.A. in Media Studies from UC Berkeley in 2020. As an undergraduate, she was a research assistant at Berkeley Law’s Human Rights Center and the Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity. She now works for Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), a global business network and non-profit consultancy, on projects related to technology, ethics, and human rights.
